The Engel & Volkers international team welcomes Richard James Deacon to the Kelowna office. Richard will be a leading professional advisor on luxury + premium properties in the Okanagan.

Richard has an international background with 22 years of global luxury sales and marketing experience. Richard is hyper focused on offering a premium client experience and believes that a luxury level of personalized service should be offered to each transaction. Richard approaches every property with a goal to use creative storytelling, premium marketing solutions, combined with the latest technology and key data+market insights to achieve world class results for his clients. A skilled negotiator and master of detail, Richard is a professional advisor that clients want in their court when it comes to buying or selling a property.

Richard is also the Co-founder of TIGER 21 Canada, an exclusive and highly private investor education organization for ultra-high net worth families. TIGER 21 has over 500 members across North America with collective assets in excess of $90B. TIGER’s mission is to help members improve their investment acumen, tackle common issues of wealth preservation, manage family-related challenges, and understand estate planning options, philanthropic endeavors and legacy impact. Richard is licensed as a real estate advisor in British Columbia, Canada, is currently enrolled in the Institute for Luxury Home Marketing’s Certified Luxury Home Marketing Specialist (CLHMS) designation program and is a candidate in 2018 for the Institute’s Million Dollar Guild recognition.

Richard is fluent in French and English and working on fluency in Spanish, Richard dabbles in other languages such as German and Mandarin. Richard is an experienced cook, avid wine drinker and even sports what he bills as one of the largest private vintage Tequila collections in Canada and one day hopes to combine those talents into something worthy. Richard loves tennis, mountain biking and hiking and has been known to host meetings while on the side of a mountain doing something active. In any city, Richard always seeks out the best espresso, jogging trails and as a result, meets the nicest locals.

Richard is a passionate and connected philanthropist and his list of volunteer involvements include his role as; Past-President of the National Advertising Benevolent Society, in 2008 Richard was inducted by NABS into the Canadian Advertising Hall of Honor in Toronto, as a Past Director of the Board of the acclaimed Children’s Charity Arts Umbrella, as a national past-judge for the Courage to Come Back Awards, as a Mentor of the Year awardee in the Vancouver Board of Trade Leaders of Tomorrow program, as past Chair of a capital campaign for the Union Gospel Mission’s Women and Children’s Ministry, and as an active volunteer in the kitchen and with their Treasures After School kids program. Richard is the Immediate Past- President of the Nicola Valley Food Bank and also sat on the Campaign Cabinet for the University of British Columbia’s Business Families Centre, and was honored to have been nominated in 2006 for the National Top 40 Under 40 Award where he was a finalist. Richard is a current Director on the Board of Governors for Fraser Valley Elementary School, the leading independent IB School in BC’s Fraser Valley, a Scouts Canada leader in Kelowna, a former head coach for Langley United Youth Soccer, a member of the 100 Men Who Care charity in both Vancouver and Kelowna and the Founder of 100 Kids Who Care Kelowna launching September 2017.

Richard and his family have recently created a new student leadership and mentoring program in the small town of Reston, Manitoba. Reston, their oldest son (5) was named after his grandparents who called the town home for nearly 100 years, the program pair’s high school students with business and community leaders with a focus on paying it forward and exposing them to special guest from across the planet.

Richard, his beautiful wife MaryAnn and their young sons Reston and Parker along with Golden Retriever ‘Buddy’ live in Kettle Valley, Kelowna, are building their dream home in Fall 2017, and they love to travel the planet extensively.
