Abel O’Brennan was born and raised in central Vancouver Island and has travelled just enough of the world to realize how truly fantastic this region is. Coming from a family with 6 kids Abel quickly learned the importance of hard work and the necessity for outside of the box thinking. As he describes it, it was “Survival of the fittest”. Throughout his youth Abel worked in many different local Island industries ranging from logging to fishing and everything in between.

At the age of just 20 Abel married his high school sweetheart and shortly there after settled into his first true career when he opened Coastal Black Estate Winery just outside of the Comox Valley. Over the next decade Abel and Amanda had 4 children and built Coastal Black into one of the top three producing wineries on Vancouver Island. Over those years Abel was continually recognized by industry and pier groups as a leader in business and was awarded with Top 40 Under 40 for the Comox Valley, Top 20 Under 40 Vancouver Island, BC Outstanding Young Farmer runner up and countless wine awards. The winery has grown to a place now where the majority of it’s production is exported into foreign markets which has free’d Abel up to pursue one of his life’s long term passions.

Abel has been involved in real estate for years as he has bought and sold numerous residential and commercial properties as personal investments. Through those transactions Abel realized just how much he loved the real estate market and knew that ultimately that is where he needed to end up. Having developed years worth of relationships in the Comox Valley as he ran his own business has given Abel a very unique perspective on the local area. Working with Engel & Volkers is a natural fit for Abel as it is an international brand that represents quality in every aspect of what it does.
