If James Bond Lived in Belgium - Castle Olsene

Historic properties can often be charming, but the impressive castle Kasteel van Olsene, currently listed by Engel & Völkers Belgium for 25 million euros, comes with extraordinary comforts that ring a bit more than cutesy. With sleek modern edges around its outdoor (and indoor) pool, gorgeous chandeliers and priceless crown molding, we imagine this moated castle located just 40 miles west of Brussels could be the perfect hideaway for James Bond himself. After all, the castle also features a car lift and underground garage that could perfectly fit up to 12 of Bond’s signature sports cars.

In addition to having high-tech video surveillance, necessary for any secret agent mission, Kasteel van Olsene boasts over 20,000 square feet of space which includes three kitchens, a home cinema, wine cellar, wellness area complete with sauna and swimming pool, and five bedrooms, each with its own dressing room and en suite bathroom. Got cold feet before embarking on a quest to save the world? The property is also fitted with underfloor heating as part of its smart home technology and security system.

This modern-day castle is surrounded by a 37-acre park teeming with a diverse spread of plants, walking paths and outbuildings. It can be accessed by traveling across its 2,800 ft.-long driveway and then finally by way of an arched bridge across its characteristic moat.

“The castle dates back to the 19th century and was extensively renovated between 2004 and 2012. It is this combination of historic architecture and contemporary comfort that gives the property its special charm,” said Philippe Herbert, managing partner of Engel & Völkers Gent-Centrum. In fact, when Belgian architect Louis Minard designed Kasteel van Olsene in 1854, he drew inspiration from features of medieval castles and Western European churches to build the square castle’s four Neo-Renaissance-style corner towers. A perfect fortress, we’d say, where Bond can rest his head at night.
